Food pantry appeals for freezer
The Scott City Ministerial Alliance is in need of an upright freezer after the breakdown of its old freezer. It is without storage for donated freezer items and would like to continue to distribute frozen ground beef and hot dogs to the needy in Scott City. The not-for-profit food pantry feeds about 500 people a month in Scott City. To make donations to help purchase a freezer or more food for the pantry, call 225-5294.
Scott City booths available for Labor Day sale
The Scott City First Assembly of God has indoor and outdoor booths available at the City-Wide Yard Sale, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 28 and Aug. 29. Concessions will be available both days. For more information, call Dean Foulk at 573-318-6499 or 573-318-6496.
Registration open for grand family conference
A conference for grandparents and other relatives raising children will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at New McKendree United Methodist Church, Highway 25 South, Jackson. Topics include substance abuse, special-needs children, legal issues. Free lunch and child care will be available. Participants must register before Oct. 6. Call 800-392-8771.
Sponsor literacy in classrooms
The Youth Education Literacy and Learning Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization focusing on literacy in our area, is recruiting for classrooms sponsorships in local school districts to receive the Southeast Missourian newspaper. As part of the Newspapers in Education program, businesses can provide a school year subscription to one, three or five classrooms and in return receive a sponsor identification ad, large group ad and recognition on the newspaper bundles.
