Big River holding eighth annual Holiday Turkey Drive
Big River Telephone is hosting its eighth annual Holiday Turkey Drive in two locations, Cape Girardeau and Farmington, Mo., from Nov. 1 through Dec. 21, with help from the Salvation Army, Schnucks (Cape Girardeau), Country Mart (Farmington), Withers Broadcasting and J98 "The Boot." Donation vouchers may be picked up in either city: Country Mart and J98 "The Boot" in Farmington or Schnucks and the Big River Telephone office in Cape Girardeau. The voucher, along with a $10 donation, can then be used at Country Mart or Schnucks to help feed others in the community. All donations will be used by the Salvation Army to provide meals for needy families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Big River will also be promoting the drive live at both locations. Nativities from around the world to be on display in Cape
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1048 W. Cape Rock Drive, will be displaying more than 300 Nativities from around the world from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday to Dec. 4. 12th annual 'Wonderland of Treasures' sale to be Saturday
St. Denis is hosting its 12th annual "Winter Wonderland of Treasures" sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Parish Center, 135 N. Winchester St. in Benton, Mo. There will be booths with crafts, jewelry, candies, quilts, woodworking, Pampered Chef, purses, baby items, embroidery, etc. Homemade chicken noodle soup, chili, desserts and breakfast items will be available. There will be raffle drawings throughout the day. Admission is free. Rent for an 8-by-8 booth is $15. MoDOT hosting Christmas Angel chili dinner this week
For 25 years, Missouri Department of Transportation employees have been helping area families grant Christmas wishes through the Christmas Angels program. MoDOT employees work with the Department of Family and Children's Services to identify needy children in the area. Current employees and MoDOT retirees come together to make chili for the event. With the funds raised, MoDOT volunteers purchase gifts for children who would not otherwise receive gifts. The event will be held Thursday. The cost is $4 and will include a 16-ounce cup of chili and crackers. Orders can be picked up on Dec. 1 at the MoDOT district office at 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Mo. Trinity Ladies' Christmas bazaar scheduled for Saturday
The Trinity Ladies' Junior Aid will be hosting its annual Christmas Bazaar in the fellowship room at Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 N. Frederick St., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Chicken and dumplings luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children 6 and younger. Carry-outs are available. The bazaar will includes items for sale such as crafts, baked goods, homemade candies and jellies, books, and previously owned treasures.
