Heart and health screenings offered

St. Francis Medical Center will offer heart and health screenings from 7 to 10 a.m. Wednesday and on Nov. 19. The heart screening includes a lipid profile plus glucose test for $29 and includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cardio-risk ratio plus glucose for diabetes. The health screening includes a free blood-pressure screening and a glucose screening for $6 and a women's osteoporosis screening for $25. Screenings are held in the Health and Wellness Center, Entrance 8. More information is available by calling 573-331-5970.

Food drive in Scott City

The Scott City Ministerial Alliance is hosting a food drive to benefit the Scott City Food Pantry from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Bob's Foodliner, 2100 Main St. in Scott City. Donations of non-perishable food items help feed local families.

Hospital auxiliary sets linen sale

The Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a linen sale from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Offered for purchase will be used blankets, sheets, pillowcases, towels, footies, pads, gowns and more at discounted prices. All items have been thoroughly laundered and are appropriate for household and personal use. The sale is in the center's lower-level elevator area.

SoutheastHEALTH, IHOP join for healthcare

The owners of IHOP, opening in Cape Girardeau this week, will donate 100 percent of gross proceeds from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday to health causes. Owners Andy and Anissa Patel will donate Monday's proceeds to benefit patients at Southeast Hospital's Cancer Patient Experience Fund. Tuesday's proceeds, which will be donated in honor of Dahya Patel, the father of Andy Patel, will aid SoutheastHEALTH's neonatal intensive care unit and Southeast's Women's and Children's Services.

Luncheon speaker to address arthritis

Ryan Bandermann, a physical therapist at Saint Francis Medical Center, will speak on arthritis from 12:10 to 12:40 p.m. Thursday at Health and Wellness Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2, entrance 8. The free lecture, "The Bare Bones of Arthritis: A General Overview and Conservative Management," will give an overview of arthritis and its effects and strategies to manage the condition. Attendees may bring lunch.

Delta senior citizens to meet

Delta senior citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Delta Community Center. The meeting's program will include recognition of veterans, a talk by Sue Mayo of the Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield, Missouri, and music by John Schott. Lunch will be served at noon. Chili and soup supper Nov. 15

A chili and chicken-noodle soup supper will be held 4 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the St. Augustine School Gymnasium in Kelso, Missouri. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students in kindergarten through eighth grade; there is no charge for children younger than school age. Carry-outs are available; patrons are asked to supply a container.

Church hosts ballplayer at lunch

Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City will host a Christmas event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15. Shae Simmons of the Atlanta Braves, a Scott City native and member of the church, will be present from 10 a.m. to noon. Baseballs will be sold for him to autograph, and attendees may have their photographs taken with the player. The event includes baked goods, crafts, Christmas items and a soup lunch.

Child-care events scheduled

HealthPoint fitness will look after children during two "Parents' Night Out" events from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at its Jackson location and Nov. 21 at its Cape Girardeau location. Each session will include games, activities, crafts, dinner and more. Cost per session is $10 per child for HealthPoint members and $15 per child for non-members. Scrapbook session scheduled Saturday

A "Scrapbook Crop" will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. The event will help support the SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary's state project that focuses on children with special needs and disabilities. Auxiliary to host holiday trees event

The SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary will host a Festival of Holiday Trees from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Southeast Cancer Center. The event includes a reception and silent auction of holiday-themed trees decorated by local florists, artists, design firms, other businesses, SoutheastHEALTH employees and volunteers. It will be catered by Celebrations restaurant. Tickets, $50 per person, include entrance into a drawing for a 7-foot-tall, decorated Christmas tree. Tickets may be purchased at the Volunteer Services office at Southeast Hospital. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the recent redesign and expansion of Southeast Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. More information is available by calling 573-651-5518.

Krispy Kreme doughnut sale Nov. 25

The St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale at 9 a.m. Nov. 25. The sale will be in the center's Healing Arts Lobby at entrance 2. Cost is $9 per dozen.

Baby-sitting class scheduled

A baby-sitting class will be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 28 at St. Francis Medical Center' Training Room A, at entrance 4. The cost is $40 or $35 for children of Saint Francis employees; the program is geared for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. The program includes having fun with children; recognizing and dealing with medical emergencies; handling children of certain ages; safety; child and infant CPR; and the business of babysitting.Lunch is provided. Benefit of beans subject of class

This monthly cooking class at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau will focus on the benefits of beans. HealthPoint Nutritional Services Coordinator Raina Childers will lead the class, scheduled 6 to 7:15 p.m. Nov. 17. "Cooking with beans is incredibly healthy as these mighty little wonders pack a real punch with fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals. They are adaptable to any type of fare and are an economical option for bringing high-quality nutrition into your home," says Childers.

Admission to the class is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for non-members.

Grief support group has holiday focus

The Grief Support Group at SoutheastHEALTH will discuss coping with grief during the holidays when it meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau.

The group allows adults to come together to share their grief following the death of a loved one. Trained facilitators offer educational programs and an opportunity to share and heal. The group offers participants understanding, support and hope.
