Genealogical society selling books
The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will have several book sales at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington St., in Jackson with a variety of new and used books for genealogists to purchase. The book sales will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 24.
Help available for Medicare sign up
Residents eligible for Medicare's prescription drug program can sign up for it with help at an event in December. The enrollment session will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Jackson Senior Center. There are a limited amount of spots, so reservations are required. The Medicare Part D is available to Medicare beneficiaries with an enrollment period beginning today and ending Dec. 31. Surviving the Holiday seminar set
"GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays" is a seminar for people facing the holidays after a loved one's death. The seminar will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 223 W. Adams St., Jackson. The free seminar features practical suggestions and reassurance through video interviews with counselors, grief experts and other people who have experienced the holidays after a loved one's death. Train club holds model railroad show
The Southern Illinois Train Club will hold a model railroad show and sale with more than 40 vendors. Admission is $3 for adults; Children under 12 with an adult are free. Early bird admission is $5 at 10 a.m. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Benton Civic Center in Benton, Ill.
Cape Baptist church celebrates 50 years
Lynwood Baptist Church will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a two day celebration. An Open House will start at 3 p.m. Saturday, followed by a "Meet, Greet and Remember Reception" from 4 to 6 p.m. and then a Music and Memories service at 6 p.m. Guest speakers from the moayor's office and the Missouri Baptist Convention will join Pastor Mark Anderson for the services from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 22.
