Jackson Veterans Day activities planned

The American Legion Post 158 of Jackson and the Jackson VFW Post 10495 will host the annual Veterans Day Parade at 4 p.m. Monday. Any group who would like to participate in the parade needs to be in front of the old Jackson High School building at 3:30 p.m. for lineup. The parade route will be uptown to the Courthouse, left on West Main Street to Oklahoma Street and returning to the Jackson High School campus. This year's parade marshal will be Penny Kurre. Following the parade there will be a patriotic ceremony at the New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. The featured speaker for the patriotic program will be Dennis Woeltje. Following the ceremony, the church will host a dinner honoring all veterans and their families. The public is invited to attend.

Southeast Health is presenting the following programs in the month of November:

* Spinal Fractures and Balloon Kyphoplasty: 6 p.m. Monday at HealthPoint Cape Girardeau

* Focus on Food Safety: Diabetes Self-Management Support Group: 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, at HealthPoint Cape Girardeau

* Explorer Post 4077: 7 p.m. Thursday, Harrison Room in Southeast Hospital

* Healthy Cooking: Thanksgiving side dishes: 6 to 7:15 p.m. Nov. 19, HealthPoint Cape Girardeau. Cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for nonmembers

* Jouneys cancer support group: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 27, Unity Room of Southeast Cancer Center

* Weight loss program informational sessions: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 27, HealthPoint Cape Girardeau

*** Habitat for Humanity hosts fundraiser

Cape Girardeau Area Habitat for Humanity is hosting the "Home for the Holidays" fundraiser from 7 p.m. to midnight Nov. 30 at the Eagles Aerie, 321 N. Spring St. in Cape Girardeau. Tickets are $15 or $10 with a Southeast Missouri State University student ID and are available for advance purchase by calling the Habitat office, 335-9728, or any Capaha Bank location. Hours d'ouvres will be served. Evan Webb and Beer 30 will be providing music. There will also be a silent auction.

Saint Francis offers genetic counseling

Saint Francis Medical Center has begun offering a genetic counseling program to fight hereditary cancer. This is the first program in the region that focuses primarily on genetics and cancer and is led by Melanie Baxter. People who may benefit from genetic counseling include those with a personal or family history of known or suspected cancer susceptibility and those at high risk for genetic disease. Team up for trivia

A trivia night to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Knights of Columbus hall in Jackson. The cost is $20 per person and teams will consist of eight players. Ambulance service offers holiday program

Stoddard County ambulance service will offer the annual "Operation Home for the Holidays" service from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 22. Residents who live in nursing homes and can travel by ambulance can be transported to their families in the county free of charge. Residents must live in Stoddard or an adjoining county. The families must make arrangements with the nursing homes who will contact the ambulance service to schedule a pick up time. For more information, contact 624-4528, extension 111.
