The Shawnee National Forest and Unimin Specialties Minerals Inc. presents "Critter Night," a free family event at the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds in Jonesboro, Ill. Participants will be able to learn about the nocturnal animals of Illinois. There will games, crafts and other activities. The event is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and will feature a live owl presentation by Bev Shofstall of Free Again Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Evening of ghost stories scheduled for Friday night

Kettle beef dinner scheduled at New Salem church in Daisy
New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy will serve its annual kettle beef and chicken dressing supper to the public from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The family-style meal includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, slaw, homemade bread and dessert. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 6 to 12 and free for children 6 and younger. Family-style dinner to be served at St. Augustine School
A family-style dinner will be held the St. Augustine School in Kelso, Mo. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16 with carryout available starting at 11:30 a.m. Chicken and dumplings, dressing, baked ham and all the trimmings will be served. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 11, free for children 5 and younger.
Tilsit church to celebrate its 145th anniversary
The members of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church at 490 Route F, Jackson, will celebrate their 145th congregational anniversary Oct. 16. The Rev. Luther Albrecht, who served as pastor of Immanuel from 1967 to 1970, will be the guest speaker for the service, which will begin at 8:45 a.m. Following the service, the fellowship committee will host a reception in the parish hall to give an opportunity to visit with Albrecht. Everyone is invited to the celebration.
Nitsch family reunion to be held in Jackson City Park
The descendants of Wentzel and Sophia Nitsch will gather at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 at pavilion 4 in Jackson City Park. A basket dinner will be held. For more information, call 243-5797.
