Flu immunization shots are offered to Delta, Missouri, area residents and will be provided from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Delta Community Center. The inoculations are free to those with Medicare and/or Medicaid card. For others, there is a fee.
The Saxon Lutheran Memorial Fall Festival will be at 9 a.m. Saturday. Activities include music, handmade crafts, horse-and-buggy rides and demonstrations of blacksmithing, apple-butter cooking, quilting, butchering, crosscut sawing, shingle-making, spinning, cider-pressing, cooking soap, bread-baking and more. Jackson High School Class of 1955 will hold its 60th class reunion at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson at 5 p.m. Saturday. Attendees are asked to bring memories and pictures to share.
The John Guild Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution will honor veterans of the Vietnam War with an event at 2:30 Oct. 11 at the Patriots Wall at Brookside Park in Jackson. Speakers will be Dennis Woeltje, immediate past department commander of the American Legion and a veteran of the Vietnam War; David Hitt, a Vietnam veteran who is a member of the Althenthol-Jorens American Legion Post 158 and chair of the 50th Vietnam War Anniversary held at the Veterans Home; and Jackson Mayor Dwain Hahs. The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be served after the program.
Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Missouri, will host a church supper from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in the school gymnasium. The menu will include fried chicken, ham, chicken and dumplings and more. The cost is $9 for adults, and $4 for children ages 6 through 12. Proceeds will be used for renovations for the Trinity school building.
A mass and reception for Bishop James Johnston Jr. of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese, who recently was appointed by Pope Francis to serve as bishop of the Kansas City-St. Joseph diocese, are planned for Oct. 12 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Cape Girardeau. The Immanuel Lutheran Dinner Auction, sponsored by the Immanuel Lutheran Youth and School in Perryville, Missouri, will be Oct. 17 at the American Legion Hall in Perryville. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., dinner will be at 6 and the oral auction will begin at 7. The auction will include oral, silent and dessert auctions and Immanuel Lutheran School Art Creations by class. During October, Arena Golf, 2901 Hawthorne Road in Cape Girardeau, will donate $3 to Dig for Life with the purchase of a large or extra-large bucket of golf balls. Patrons also will receive a small bucket of balls for use on the driving range.
A portion of putt-putt and driving-range fees will be donated to Dig for Life from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 10 at Arena Golf. Dig for Life is a fund of the Saint Francis Foundation that provides free mammograms and aid to breast cancer victims.
A people and dog walk is planned from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 10 to help commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There is no cost; with a $5 donation, a participant will receive a pink bandanna. The event will take place at Busch Pet Products, 1720 Kingsway Drive, Suite 105 in Cape Girardeau. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the door.
The Cape Girardeau Public Library will host musician Jim Gill for a family concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 23. Gill's concerts are active singalong and clap-along events for young children, filled with songs and stories from his award-winning recordings and books for children.
The Guardian Angel Parish Council of Catholic Women of Oran, Missouri, will sponsor a breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 25 at the Oran Knights of Columbus Hall. Proceeds will support the mission work of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ in Ruma, Illinois. The menu will include whole-hog sausage, ham, scrambled or fried eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 through 12.
A car, truck and motorcycle show will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at Lawless Harley Davidson, 2011 E. A fundraiser is scheduled Oct. 24 to raise funds for P.A.W.S. for Belle, an organization established to raise money to purchase a diabetic alert dog for Belle Enos, a Benton, Missouri, girl diagnosed with Type I diabetes. The dinner, auction and raffle will be held at 5 p.m. at St. Lawrence Parish Center in New Hamburg, Missouri. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for those ages 5 and younger.
