Sophomores and seniors will serve kettle beef on Tuesday, and freshmen and juniors will serve pork steak on Thursday. First Pentecostal Church, 3054 Lexington Ave. in Cape Girardeau, will host a service to honor military veterans at 11 a.m. Nov. 8. Among activities included will be music by the church's Praise Team and soloist Craig Mitchell; speeches; tributes; and patriotic displays. Guests from several military groups will be honored; trumpeter Larry Heron will play, and antique military vehicles will be displayed. Master Sgt. Theodore Jackson, U.S. Marines, retired, will speak.
An area-wide event, "A Time to Pray," is planned for 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School auditorium. The interdenominational event is free and open to the public; speakers will include Dorothy Wilson, Lucas Presson and Doug Austin of Cape Girardeau; Mike Cowan of Oak Ridge; and Scott Eakers, Father John Harth and Sam Roethemeyer of Jackson. A craft show and sale with multiple vendors and fresh baked goods will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Masonic Temple, 2307 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. Admission is free, free coffee will be served and there will be hourly prize drawings.
St. Augustine School in Kelso, Missouri, will host a chili and chicken noodle soup supper from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in the school gymnasium. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for students; there is no charge for those younger than school age. Carryouts will be available, and those who wish to buy soup or chili by the quarter or gallon are asked to bring containers.
Magnolia Manor in Cairo, Illinois, now is accepting reservations for its annual Holiday House luncheons, which will be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 5. The cost of $25 per person includes a sit-down meal and a tour of the house decorated for Christmas. Reservations will be accepted through Nov. 13.
