United Way to host Saturday beer-tasting

United Way of Southeast Missouri will host Boos and Microbrews in partnership with Hop Heads of Southeast Missouri home-brew club and Bluff City Beer Co. from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at the corner of Broadway and Main Street in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Attendees will be able to sample craft and locally brewed beers and vote on their favorite. Raffle tickets for two prizes will be sold, with prizes awarded at 3 and 4 p.m. Costumes are encouraged, and the best-dressed woman and man will be awarded prizes.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate and may be purchased at United Way of Southeast Missouri, BOLD Marketing or John Huber Brewing Company in Fruitland. The first 350 people to enter the event tent will receive a coolie cup and bottle-opener keychain. Food will be sold by 2 Sides Grillin, and the Jerry Ford polka band will provide music.

HealthPoint offers healthy lifestyle program

HealthPoint fitness is offering a six-week program to help individuals maintain a healthy lifestyle through the holiday season.

The program will involve one-hour sessions beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 4 that will include topics such as meal planning, physical activity, nutrition and maintaining motivation.An informational meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau.

St. Mary Cathedral raffle set

St. Mary Cathedral Home and School Association will present its progressive raffle for the 2014-2015 school year.

A winning ticket for $100 will be drawn each weekend starting Nov. 9 with the final winning ticket, worth $10,000, to be drawn at Feb. 21 the St. Mary Cathedral School Dinner Auction. Tickets sell for $20 each.

With a theme of Margaritaville, the dinner will be at Ray's Conference Center, with entertainment by the Southeast Missouri State University steel drum band.

Five $500 cash drawings also will be awarded during the weekends. Winning tickets are returned to the pool and again may be drawn for cash prizes.

All money raised will help support the association and exclusively go toward the student education.

Tickets may be purchased at the school office by calling 573-335-3840, at Knaup Floral and Guys Big and Tall, or by contacting any school family. Tickets also are available after each mass with cash, check or credit card.
