Amateur radio operator class schedules announced
The Southeast Missouri Amateur Radio Operators Club will offer free classes to people who want to get a radio operator's license. Orientation is at 8 a.m. Saturday, with classes beginning Jan. 31 and continuing Feb. 7, 14, 21 and March 7. The final class will include testing for the FCC license. Classes start at 8 a.m. and last four hours. They will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1048 W. Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau (at the bottom of Snake Hill in Cape Rock Village). The classes are free. The study materials cost $18.71 and testing costs $15. United Way sets up basic needs campaign
The United Way of Southeast Missouri has established a fund for charities that provides food, shelter and essentials to Southeast Missouri families facing hard times. This year the United Way is asking people to "Give $5, Tell 5." Different from their "Step Up" campaigns seeking large donations, the not-for-profit is asking for a small investment of $5 and for donors to ask five friends to give. Jackson senior parent committee seeks donations
Food, decorations, gifts, gift certificates or monetary donations are being sought by the Jackson senior parent committee to fund the Jackson High School graduating class of 2009 senior breakfast and the drug-free all night senior celebration.
