Cape Girardeau Roller Derby will hold an open recruitment night at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Arena Building, 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have an interest in doing community volunteer work. New members will have a 90-day training period to learn basic skating techniques before joining the team on the track. The Cape Girardeau Public Library will hold an indoor games day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 9, at the library, 711 N. Clark St. in Cape Girardeau. This family-friendly event will feature classic games and new boredom buster activities to help beat the heat or escape the rain. The event is free and children must be at least 5 years old.
The Gus Macker three-on-three basketball tournament will return to Cape Girardeau beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, at Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau. Registration must be completed and mailed in by July 8 or must be completed online at macker.com/local/cape-girardeau-mo by July 11. Teams must consist of four players, and registration will cost $140 per team. On-site registration will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, and from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 30.
