The Salvation Army's Meals with Friends for July 25 through 29 include:

Monday: Chicken with gravy or beef stew, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, fruit and dessert.

Tuesday: Mac/tuna or ham, green beans and potatoes, bread, fruit and dessert.

Wednesday: Turkey and gravy or cheese hot dog, mashed potatoes, bread, fruit and dessert.

Thursday: Baked fish or chicken salad, green beans, bread, fruit and dessert.

Friday: Leftovers.

Back to School Fair to be held

A free Back to School Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Cape Girardeau Central Middle School, 1900 Thilenius St. in Cape Girardeau. Families with students in prekindergarten through 12th grade from all area schools are invited to attend. The event will be hosted by the United Way of Southeast Missouri, the Salvation Army, Cape Girardeau Public Schools, the Urban Kids Project, ABC Today/Big Brothers Big Sisters and many not-for-profit businesses in the area. The fair will provide registration for free school supplies, free immunizations, dental screenings and health insurance counseling. Free hot dogs and ice cream will be provided, along with many activities for all ages, including a DJ and games. Door prizes -- such as wipes from Procter & Gamble, free haircuts from the Hair Loft, free Domino's pizza coupons and coupons for free haircuts from Trendsetters -- will be given away. Attendees are encouraged to park on the streets and at Grace United Methodist Church.

Homecomers 5K planned

As part of Jackson Homecomers, a 1-mile youth race and 5K race will be held at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, on Tuesday, July 26, starting at the American Legion baseball field at the corner of Washington and Union streets in Jackson. Registration will cost $20 for race day registration and packet pickup will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. the day of the race in the Legion baseball field parking lot. Children ages 6 to 12 are able to participate in the 1-mile youth race and all ages are able to race in the 5K. Area blood drives scheduled

There is an urgent need for blood donors in the area. Upcoming area blood drives are as follows:

Culver's will host a blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the restaurant, 295 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.

Fox 23 My 49 will hold a blood drive from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at the American Red Cross Blood Center, 20 S. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau.

Cup 'n' Cork will hold a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the coffee house, 11 S. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau

Annual fish and chicken dinner set

The 47th annual Perkins Volunteer Fire Department all-you-can-eat fish and chicken dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the fire station on Highway P in Perkins, Missouri. The event also will include music provided by Country Junction Karaoke and Sound System, and there will be an auction at 5 p.m. Train rides will be available.

'Yappy Hour' event to be held

EPIC Pals and Deer Creek Doggie Day Camp will hold a Yappy Hour from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Deer Creek Doggie Day Camp, 2039 Cape LaCroix Road in Cape Girardeau. The event will include a half-price frozen treat and appetizer stand, doggie splash stations, pet pictures and a swimsuit strut. Abram the Painting Rottweiler will be in attendance. The event is an opportunity to learn about the EPIC Pals program, which involves local teenagers and rescue dogs. No preregistration is required, but a minimum donation of $5 is requested to enter the event. All funds collected will support EPIC's work in the community. Forever Young '80s Prom planned

A Forever Young '80s-themed prom will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 30, at Ragsdales, 132 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Tickets can be purchased at Ragsdales and will cost $20 per person or $30 per couple; VIP tickets will include dinner at the bar and will cost $30 per person or $50 per couple. The prom will include food, prizes, '80s-themed prom photos, dancing, a Champagne fountain, '80s movies and more. All proceeds from the event will go to help donate backpacks containing school supplies to children in the area.

Horseback riding day camp offered

Rolling Hills Farm and Equine LLC will host a horseback riding day camp from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the farm, 386 Taiga Lane in Cape Girardeau. The camps will cost $50 per day and participants must be 8 years old or older. Participants will learn about safety, horse grooming, tacking, saddling, riding, feeding, maintenance, health care and competitive riding.
