Jackson Healing Arts will hold health and wellness screenings from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14, and from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, in the Oscar Hirsch Room at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark St. in Cape Girardeau. The screenings will consist of a blood pressure check, body mass index evaluation, stress evaluation, posture evaluation and more. The Knights of Columbus 6405 will hold a community picnic from noon to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3305 N. High St. in Jackson. The event will include a pasture golf two-person scramble at noon, a bouncy water slide, dunking booth, beer garden and more. Food will be available, including hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos and pulled pork sandwiches. A dinner will be held in the upper hall from 3 to 7 p.m. and will include fried chicken, dumplings, kettle beef and all the trimmings. A washer toss tournament will begin at 6 p.m. and there will be a live band from 7 to 10:30 p.m. A balloon artist will be available from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The fourth annual Scopus Fest will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the home of Randy and Brenda Johnson, HC64 Box 4658 County Road 321 in Marble Hill, Missouri. Signs will be posted throughout Scopus, Missouri, to help guests find the event. The event will include raffles, a live auction, door prizes and food from Stooges in Jackson. Live music will be provided by Curtis Cook and Friends, Mark Rees, Shannon Cox and Matt Pratt, and karaoke will be available with Steve Parker. Proceeds from the event will be shared between the Hope Children's Home for abused and neglected children and the Resurrecting Lives Foundation for soldiers with brain injuries. The Marine Corps League will host its second annual Christmas in July event at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at The Barracks, 2148 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. The event will include food, a silent auction, raffles, holiday-related activities and prizes. It is open to the public, and also will provide information about the local Marine Corps League and its community activities. Admission is free.
