Christmas party to be held

Santa to visit Oliver House

Santa Claus will make a visit to the area from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Oliver House, 224 E. Adams St. in Jackson. The event is free, and tours of the home will be available.

'It's Christmas' to be presented

Mike Dumey will present "It's Christmas" at 6 p.m. today in the Centenary Family Life Center, 300 N. Ellis St. in Cape Girardeau. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m. Special guests at the event will include Robyn Hosp and Brodrick Twiggs. The even will feature "Acts for Him" and Mike Dumey's Showstoppers. Tickets for dinner and the showcase cost $27, or $12 for the showcase only, and can be purchased by calling (573) 803-8292.

Happy Slapowitz Toy Bash scheduled

The 15th annual Happy Slapowitz Toy Bash will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in downtown Cape Girardeau, along Broadway and Main Street. The event raises money and collects toys for Toys for Tots. The evening will include live music, food and raffles. To participate, attendees can purchase a 2016 Toy Bash T-shirt or donate $10 or a new unwrapped toy.

Toys for Tots drive planned

SoutheastHEALTH is partnering with the Marine Corps League for the annual Toys for Tots drive that begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, and continues until 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9. Donated toys will go to children in need in the Cape Girardeau and Jackson area. Toys may be dropped off at HealthPoint Fitness locations at 2126 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau or 410 W. Main St. in Jackson.

Abbey Road to host fair-trade market

Abbey Road Christian Church will host its fourth annual Plowshares International Fair-Trade Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the church, 2411 Abbey Road in Cape Girardeau. Southern Country Church Tour set

A tour of country churches in the Gordonville and Tilsit areas will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, starting at Christ Lutheran Church, 248 Albert Lane in Gordonville. Participating churches include Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville, Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville, Whitewater United Methodist Church in Whitewater, St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. Christmas festival to be held

The Cairo Heritage Foundation will host a Holiday Gospel Festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Festival Park, located at 8th and Ohio streets in Cairo, Illinois. The event will include a parade of lights, food, family fun, decorations, drawings, live music and more.

Church to host Christmas Carnival

Emerald Street Church of God will host a Christmas Carnival from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the church, 500 Emerald St. in Cape Girardeau. The event will include family-friendly crafts, face painting, games, prizes and more. Children must be supervised.

German Christmas service planned

A German Christmas service will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Old Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. The speaker will present the program in German and then in English. Hymns will be sung in German and English. Live nativity to be displayed

A live nativity will be displayed from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at First Midwest Bank, 1820 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The event will include free hot chocolate or coffee from the Remix Coffee Co. truck. Visits with Santa Claus will be available from 3 to 5 p.m.

Candlelit wood walk scheduled

A candlelit wood walk will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center, 2289 County Park Drive in Cape Girardeau. Attendees will be able to take candlelit walks along the trail and enjoy hot beverages. The nature center will be open during and after the trail walks for guests to warm up and view exhibits.
