Second annual free dinner set

The second annual free Christmas meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Stooges Restaurant, 507 W. Main St. in Jackson. The meal is open to all who need a meal or do not want to be alone for the holiday. Reservations are required for seatings at 11 a.m., noon, 1 or 2 p.m. To make a reservation, call (573) 204-7187.

New Year's Eve hike planned

A New Year's Eve hike will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Hawn State Park. The 6-mile hike along the Whispering Pine Trail is free, but registration is required. To register and for more information, call (573) 290-5218.

New Year's Eve benefit to be held

A New Year's Eve benefit will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Ray's Plaza Banquet Center, 3257 William St. in Cape Girardeau. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30. The event will include raffles, a live auction and live music by the Mike Renick Band at 9 p.m. Tickets for the event cost $60 each or a table of eight can be reserved for $500. Dinner catered by Ray's and drinks are included in all ticket sales. Glow 5K event scheduled

The EPIC 5K Glow Run will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The family-friendly event will be an opportunity to say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017 in a healthy way. New Year's Eve dance set

Eagles New Year's Eve party planned

A party will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Eagles Event Hall, 321 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau. The cost for entry is $15 in advance, $25 for couples or $20 at the door. The Venue to host New Year's party

The event costs $30 per person and will include live music from area bands with a range of high-energy dance hits that span decades. Black, White and Green party to be held

A New Year's Eve celebration will begin at 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Katy O'Ferrell's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 300 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. There will be drink specials, a live DJ, party favors for guests and a champagne toast at midnight.

MyTeam Triumph 5K set

A MyTeam Triumph Resolution 5K, 10K and 1 mile will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, at Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau. There will be a Run for God devotion at 9 a.m. preceding the race. The event costs $30 per person and will support the not-for-profit MyTeam Triumph, which provides fitness experiences for local individuals with disabilities. Registration is available at mtt-semo.org/resolution-5k-and-1-mile. Packet pickup will be available from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 31 and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on race day in the 4-H Building at the park. There will be a lunch following the event, including chicken soup from Chik-fil-A, and chili and rolls from Texas Roadhouse.
