The Salvation Army is accepting unprepared food items for its annual Thanksgiving lunch that feeds the community. Items needed include turkeys and hams, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, dressing/stuffing, rolls, packaged desserts, cranberry sauce, celery, onions, marshmallows, brown sugar, butter, large steam table pans, large aluminum foil, small aluminum foil, small cups with lids, salt and pepper shakers, salt and pepper individual packages, paper products for carry-out meals, plastic silverware, napkins, table decorations and table place mats. The Jackson Knights of Columbus will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. today at the Jackson Knights of Columbus Hall, 3305 N. High St. in Jackson. A Mission Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau, to celebrate existing mission efforts, provide a venue for sharing ideas and building cooperative efforts between congregations and organizations, and show believers how they can pray for, contribute to and participate in local and global missions. An international marketplace will feature vendors selling jewelry, window glass, shirts and other apparel. Attendees will be able to help package meals for Kids Against Hunger. All of the 75,000 meals packed will go to support the Food Bank of Southeast Missouri as well as Haiti Crisis Relief. Lunch will be provided for $4 per person, with proceeds going toward missions. The Cape Girardeau VFW and Auxiliary will host a fundraiser meal from noon to 4 p.m. today at the VFW Hall, 1049 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. Christmas craft fair scheduled

The Trinity Ladies Aid will host its annual Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, in the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 100 N. Frederick St. in Cape Girardeau. The bazaar will include crafts, baked goods, homemade candies and jellies, books and pre-owned treasures. Coffee will be served while attendees shop. The Festival of Holiday Trees will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Southeast Cancer Center, 789 S. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau. The evening will include a cocktail reception catered by Celebrations and a silent auction that will feature 29 pre-lit, 4-foot holiday trees, along with wreaths and centerpieces. A fundraiser for Respire Haiti will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the “Boathouse” on West End Boulevard in Cape Girardeau. Megan Boudreaux, founder of Respire Haiti and author of the book “Miracle on Voodoo Mountain,” will speak about her journey and mission in Haiti. A buffet dinner will be served and a silent auction held to benefit Respire and the building of a therapy center to house several of the organization’s programs.
