Meals with Friends will be served at the Salvation Army Nov. 14 through 18. Menus are as follows:
Monday: Baked eggs dish, hash browns, fruit and dessert.
Tuesday: Chili, cornbread and dessert.
Wednesday: Spaghetti with elbow noodles, corn and salad.
Thursday: Hot dogs, chips and green beans.
Friday: Leftovers, or grilled cheese if no leftovers.
Jackson's eighth annual choral festival will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 223 W. Adams St. in Jackson. The festival will feature Jackson-area church choirs singing spiritual anthems. The choirs will come together for mass singing, and there will be an opportunity for audience participation. A candlelight vigil will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Shelter 31 in Klaus Park off Old Cape Road in Jackson in recognition of National Adoption Month. The vigil will celebrate adoption and will include adoption stories, food and fellowship in honor of Orphan Sunday, or International Children's Day.
SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence is accepting nonperishable food and/or monetary donations through Friday, Nov. 18. For every five items donated, donors will receive a chocolate treat. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse (an international relief organization). The organization collects shoe boxes filled with small toys, hygiene items and school supplies for children around the world. The 21st annual Notre Dame Regional High School Christmas Extravaganza will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the high school, 265 Notre Dame Drive in Cape Girardeau. The event will include two full rooms more than 200 vendors selling crafts, gifts, collectibles and more. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Notre Dame performing and visual art departments, as well as soldier packages, Toys for Tots, Toy Box and Christmas for the Elderly. The 46th annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Extravaganza sponsored by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway, and the Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau. Tickets for the event cost $5 on both days and at both locations. All proceeds benefit the Arts Council.
A holiday shopping bazaar benefiting Heroes Way will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Cape Girardeau National Guard Armory, 2626 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau. There will be no admission cost, and the event will include a variety of vendors and crafters, Heroes Way shirts, a raffle to support Heroes Way and Cape Girardeau VFW pork burgers. Donations will be accepted for residents of the veterans home, including men's diabetic socks, AA and AAA batteries, razors, wild bird feed with black oil sunflower seeds, non-aerosol shave cream, postage stamps, crew socks, XL and 2XL T-shirts, large to 2XL sweatpants and stick deodorant.
