Meals with Friends will be held from noon to 1 p.m. from Oct. 17 to 21 at the Salvation Army. Menus are as follows:
Monday: Hot dogs, baked beans, vegetables and dessert.
Tuesday: Rice and stew, vegetables and dessert.
Wednesday: Grilled cheese, tomato soup, vegetables and dessert.
Thursday: Chicken and stuffing, vegetables and dessert.
Friday: Leftovers.
Van Jones and Kayleigh McEnany will be the next featured speakers in the University Speakers Series at Southeast Missouri State University from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, in the Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau. The event will be a political debate between Jones and McEnany. Tickets will cost $10 for the general public, and students and faculty are allowed one free ticket on presentation of a university ID.
The Cape Girardeau Zone LWML will host its fall celebration, "Sharing Hope," from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel, 1904 W. Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 9. Chrissy Mayberry of Hope Children's Home in Jackson will be the featured speaker. A collection will be made for items for the home, and a light luncheon will follow the event. A $5 donation is requested to cover the cost of the luncheon. Tom Neumeyer will present a spooky guide to Cape Girardeau's most haunted locations from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark St. in Cape Girardeau. Meeting planned at library
The first meeting of the Southeast Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a nonpartisan grassroots movement of Americans demanding reasonable solutions to address the nation's culture of gun violence, will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Teachers of Tomorrow, an organization within the College of Education at Southeast Missouri State University, will host a trivia night on Friday, Oct. 21, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 300 N. Ellis St. in Cape Girardeau. This event will benefit the teaching organization so it can bring speakers to Southeast, add programs, do more service projects for children in the community and provide needed resources to future educators. There also will be a raffle with more than 30 prizes, including gift cards to restaurants in Cape Girardeau, $50 gas cards, a Vera Bradley purse, Yeti cup, hair care baskets, Barnes & Noble basket, a Disney basket and more. A fundraiser for the Cape Girardeau chapter of Care to Learn will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Common Pleas Courthouse Gazebo, 44 N. Lorimier St. in Cape Girardeau. The free event will include games and live music from Nashville, Tennessee, music artist Kristin Kearns. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to pack a picnic and a blanket or lawn chairs. Poker run/bash set for Oct. 22
A poker run/bash for Brad Sample will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, at Trisha's Bar and Grill, 5455 Highway 25 in Cape Girardeau. Registration for the poker run will begin at 10 a.m. and the dance/bash will begin at 5 p.m. An active member of the biker community for more than 30 years, Sample has recently incurred significant medical expenses and all proceeds from the event will help offset the expenses. The John Guild Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington St. in Jackson. DAR volunteers will help provide guidance and research assistance to women interested in discovering and documenting their connection to the American Revolution.
