The Edward Bernard Gallery will be open from noon until 9 p.m. today, with a First Friday reception starting at 5 p.m. featuring abstract watercolorist Caroline Thompson. Thompson currently resides in Boulder, Colo., where she frequently exhibits her work, but is a native of Kennett, Mo. Thompson will be on hand to meet and greet gallerygoers.

Music will be provided by Cape Girardeau native Liesl Schoenberger on fiddle from 7 to 9 p.m. for more information call the gallery at 332-7733.

Buckner Brewing Co. Riverview Room

The Buckner Brewing Co. Riverview Room will feature work by the Modest Living Artists from 6 to 10 p.m. tonight. Work by MLA members James Thurman, Jake Wells, Rochelle Steffen, Hannah Hart, Utahna Hancock will be on display, along with work by guest artists Thomas Shaner and Eric Scrivner. MLA member James Thurman says "it should be a great opening."

The Artist Studio

The Artist Studio will showcase acrylic paintings made by its June workshop participants: Lisa Cole, Mary Anne Courter, Nita DuBose, Ali and Gina Herzog, Mary Lewis, Renee Moreland, Jeanne Pruitt and Judy Robinson, with an opening reception from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sign ups will be taken for papermaking and watercolor workshops that begin next week. The Garden Gallery will open its doors at noon and remain open until 9 p.m. this First Friday. Jewelry by Patricia Kimle and Tim Garvin and purses by C.L. Whiting and Carol Hirashima will be featured. Bryan Suntrup of True Loaves will be at the gallery baking organic goods from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gallery 1.2.5 will host a solo show by Modest Living Artists member Jim Daniels from 6 to 9 p.m. Daniels will display his most recent work, a mix of smaller works on paper and larger works on cavas. Daniels says most of his current work is very "flat and monochromatic" and "relates to the exploration and utilization of repetition by means of line, layer and image."
