graduations, honors
n Cody Bell of Cape Gir­ar­deau has graduated magna cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University and will begin studies this fall at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.
n Emily Younghouse of Cape Girardeau, a student at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., received the following honors during the 2006-2007 academic year: induction into the Alpha Lambda Delta national honorary society for first-year students of high academic achievement and the Fashion Award for Academic Excellence.
scholarships
n Courtney Raymer of Tallapoosa, Mo., received the first Ashley Rogers Memorial Scholarship on May 30. The award is given to a second-year respiratory therapy student attending classes at Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center. One scholarship will be awarded annually in memory of respiratory therapy student Ashley Rogers, who was killed in a traffic accident in December 2006.
n Melody Stone of Cape Gir­ar­deau and Phillip DeCoursey, Ashley Taylor, Ashley Turner and Jonathan Young, all of Jackson, have received scholarships from the University of Missouri-Kansas City for the 2007-2008 academic year. Stone, Turner and Young received Curators' Scholar awards. Young also received a Trustee's Recognition Award. DeCoursey and Taylor received Chancellor's Scholar awards.
n Michael Painton of Oran, Mo., received several awards and scholarships. He received the Provost Award for Academic Excellence for the School of Polytechnic Studies, was named the Outstanding Student of Horticulture for the 2006-2007 school year and was awarded a Regents' Scholarship at Southeast Missouri State University. He was named to the National Dean's List in 2006, and received scholarships from the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri Inc., the Webster Groves Herb Society and the National Council of Federated Garden Clubs Inc. He is the son of Don and Rhonda Painton of Oran.

n Sarah Cook of Chaffee, Mo., was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
