Two students receive National Merit honors
Jackson High School seniors Shannon Felker and Sarah Sutterer have been named "Commended Students" in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program.
They placed in the top 5 percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT-National Merit Scholarship test.
Felker is the daughter of Robert and Diana Felker of Jackson. Sutterer is the daughter of Tim and Karen Sutterer of Jackson.
Architecture student wins award for design
Ray Fambro of Cape Girardeau, a graduate student in architecture from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., and other members of K-State's chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students won fourth place and $500 for their design of a film institute and retail/residential center in San Francisco as part of a design competition.
Honor roll student
Shad Wren, a fifth grader at South Elementary School in Jackson, was named to the first-quarter "B" honor roll.
