Kage FCE met Aug. 11 in the Chateau Girardeau activities room. Dortha Strack, president, called the meeting to order. Jobyna Daume, vice president, led the pledges and the club collect. Kara Clark Summers, hostess, had a devotional on faith.
Roll call was answered by 11 members and one guest, Debbie Mann, to the question, "Do you have a computer and how often do you use it?"
Dr. Jason Wagganer, associate professor at Southeast Missouri State University, gave an informative explanation of Project Charlie. Volunteers with this alcohol, drug, tobacco and bullying awareness program meet with fourth and second grade students in public schools for 30 minutes each week during the school year. Volunteers are needed, and interested persons can contact Wagganer at jwagganer@semo.edu.
Belinda Strack is the recipient of the Kage $100 Scholarship. She will be studying animal science with the goal of becoming a small animal and livestock veterinarian.
The tip of the month is to be sure car keys are in hand before leaving a building so you don't have to stop at the car to search in your purse.
Election of officers resulted in all remaining the same, except secretary. Marian Kramer ws elected to that position.
A letter from the public library invited Kage to have a meeting there and to participate in a tour of the library. An invitation was also read from Oak Ridge FCE to their 100th year celebration Sept. 8.
Mary Gosche, human development specialist of the county, will retire in December.
Food for Fish is this month's project, and military mail is due in October. Joan Meyer is responsible for an item for the silent auction at the Heroes Way dinner.
A leaders' training meeting will be held in Perryville, Missouri, on Aug. 19. Suggestions for topics were care of orchids, tour of the new Jackson Civic Center, diet and food allergies.
The August meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary was held at the Post 63 American Legion Hall with 20 members present. Hostesses were Linda Kern, Tina Bell and Alice Cordia. During the business meeting, it was decided to give the Amen Center $500 toward the payment of their facility. Also, members bring items for the center at each month meeting.
