Perryville church celebrating 140 years

Immanuel Lutheran Church and School of Perryville, Mo., is celebrating its 140th anniversary. Several weekend celebrations are planned. The major celebration worship service will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 29. The Rev. Wilbur Neumann, a former pastor, will speak, followed by a buffet meal and entertainment at 4:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Worship practices from the 1860s will be commemorated the weekend of Nov. 11 and 12. Men will be encouraged to sit on the left (baptismal font) side of the sanctuary; women on the right (pulpit) side, and children in the center section with the elders. Worshippers are encouraged to dress in styles of days gone by for the worship services that weekend. An old-fashioned Christmas service at the Friedenburg church is planned for Dec. 3. In the spring, an "Old Timers Gathering for Reminiscing" will be observed.
