Bethany calls new associate pastor, minister of students

Bethany Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau has called Jason (J.D.) Davis to serve as associate pastor and minister of students. Davis graduated high school in Sikeston, Mo., and is an alumnus of Harris-Stowe State College and Southeast Missouri State University. He is a graduate of Liberty University, where he studied religion with specialization in youth ministry. Davis is married to Crystal, with one son, Caedmon.

Bethany Baptist begins fall semester of AWANA

Fall semester of AWANA, a ministry for children age 3 through grade 6, meets Wednesdays throughout the school year from 6 to 8 p.m. Each night is divided into three segments: council time, handbook time and game time. "Cubbies" is for 3- to 4-year-olds, "Sparks" is for kindergarten through second grade, and "Truth and Training" is for third grade through sixth grade. For more information, call 335-3445.

Orthodox Christian Mission to hold services today, Sunday

The Orthodox Christian Mission of Cape Girardeau will hold divine service today and Sunday at the Drury Lodge. Vespers will be at 5 p.m. Saturday. Orthros (Matins) will be at 9 a.m. Sunday, and Divine Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. For further information, call Leonard Cook at 573-223-4786.

Activities scheduled this week at First Baptist Church

Sunday Bible study is at 9:30 a.m., and worship service at 10:45 a.m. at First Baptist Church. The sermon series for September is called "Discovering Your SHAPE (and doing something about it!)." Pastor Mike Shupert's message this week is titled "Uniquely Gifted." Wednesday night Bible study (Luke chapter 20) with Dr. Ron Winstead is at 6:15 p.m. A new children's choir meets at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday and has begun rehearsing a new Christmas musical. A discussion group sponsored by First Baptist, Socrates' Cafe, is held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at Grace Cafe, 818 Broadway. First Baptist is accepting registrations now for Parents' Night Out, Sept. 19, for ages 6 months to sixth grade. Call 335-6006.

First Presbyterian changes worship, Sunday school times

First Presbyterian Church at Broadway and Lorimier Street will change times for Sunday school and worship effective Sunday. Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship at 10:30 a.m.

Gospel singing to be held at Shiloh Baptist Church

Shiloh Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, Ill., will have a gospel singing at 7 p.m. today featuring The Gloryroad Travelers of Mounds, Ill., and Kathy and Darrel Hobbs of Cape Girardeau.

Christian Ignition Series begins Sunday at Zion Methodist Church

Christian Ignition, a series to help people learn about basic Christian beliefs, begins at 9:15 a.m. Sunday at Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville. The discussion topic with video presentation is "So Is This All There Is?"

Album recorded at Cape First to be released this month

The nationally produced CD "To Know Your Heart" will be sold at 5 p.m. Sept. 14 at a prerelease party at Cape First, where it was recorded. It will go on sale to the public Sept. 16. For tickets to the prerelease party, contact Cape First.

Red Star Church schedules activities for this week

Red Star Baptist church will have Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., worship at 10:40 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday; Bible study at 2 p.m. Monday, and prayer meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
