Benefit concert planned for next week in Jackson
Julie Walker and Friends will be in concert at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at New McKendree South Campus in Jackson. The music is acoustic folk and other genres; admission is free. A love offering will be taken to benefit a local charity.

Sermon series featured at First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau will feature the second sermon, "Go The Distance," in the series "Take The Next Step" from the Rev. Mike Shupert, a study of Romans 7: 15-25, at 10:45 a.m. today. First Baptist will also hold a youth Bible study with Tyler Tankersley 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tankersley will also lead a college Bible study on Saturdays starting Aug. 25. Adult Bible study is Wednesday with Shupert. Check out First Baptist Church's booth at the SEMO Welcome Back Picnic from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Show Me Center.
Old Bethel Church to be dedicated Aug. 18
Baptists will celebrate the completion of the Old Bethel Church restoration project in a special ceremony from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at the old church in Jackson. Speakers will include Gov. Matt Blunt; John Marshall, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo.; Frank Page, president of the Southern Baptist Convention; and David Tolliver, interim executive director of the Missouri Baptist Convention.
