Pastor installed at Concordia Lutheran

The Rev. Rodney A. Benkendorf was installed June 15 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna, Mo. Benkendorf moved to Frohna from St. Louis, where he was a master of divinity student and a part-time assistant pastor at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. His wife, Sarah, and two daughters, Katie and Megan, now make their home near Frohna.

Southern Brothers in concert Wednesday

The Southern Brothers will be in concert Wednesday at the outdoor patriotic celebration of Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Jackson. The annual event includes family games and activities, free food and drink, and a finale fireworks display. Festivities begin at 6 p.m., and will conclude at 9. Between Jackson Middle School and West Lane Elementary School, the church is at 581 Broadridge Drive. Bring a lawn chair.

Patriotic celebrations planned at churches

  • The East Cape Baptist Church will present the musical"God Bless The U.S.A." at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. For more information, call 618-776-5993.
  • Bethel Assembly's annual "Freedom Celebration" will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at shelter No. 3 at Kiwanis Park. There will be food, fun and fireworks. There will be games for the children, and a fireworks display will start at dark. Call 335-5531 for more information. Everything is free, and the public is invited.

Concert to benefit Safe House for Women

The public is invited to a free benefit concert at New McKendree United Methodist Church provided by Harmony Creek. This concert will be a benefit for Safe House for Women. The concert will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at New McKendree South Campus in Jackson. Harmony Creek is a contemporary Christian vocal group with vocalists Hannah Rice, Kelsey Gjerstad and Hannah Walker.

Bishop announces new assignments

Bishop James V. Johnston of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau has announced new diocese assignments effective Tuesday. The Rev. John Harth is pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson, St. John Church in Leopold and St. Anthony Church Mission in Glennon. Monsignor Edward M. Eftink will retire. The Rev. Kyle Hill is associate pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson, St. John Church in Leopold and St. Anthony Church Mission in Glennon. The Rev. Saviour Nundwe is associate pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau and part-time chaplain at Notre Dame Regional High School. The Rev. Ralph Duffner is parochial administrator of Guardian Angel Church in Oran, in addition to being parochial administrator at St. Ambrose in Chaffee. The Rev. William Huggins is priest-in-residence at St. John Church in Leopold.
