Vacation Bible school sessions scheduled for coming week

  • "Veggie Tales; Pirates That Don't Do Anything" is the theme for vacation Bible school at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.   • "Discovering Jesus' Miraculous Power" is what children will learn during vacation Bible school at Sedgewickville Baptist Church, 6 to 8:45 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. A parade through town will kick off vacation Bible school Sunday. For information, call the church at 266-0023.
  • First Pentecostal Church, 3054 Lexington Ave., will hold a vacation Bible school for ages 2 to 12 Monday through Wednesday. This year's focus for vacation Bible school is training in drama and song so children can learn to take part in the ministry. A concert grand finale, where the children will perform all they've learned, will be held Friday. For information, call 335-9291.

'Olympic Faith' is worship theme at First Baptist Church

The Olympics will be the backdrop this month at First Baptist Church as the worship theme will be "Olympic Faith." The Rev. Mike Shupert's message this week is titled "Speed." Sunday Bible study is at 9:30 a.m., and worship service at 10:45 a.m. The church will also focus on China as its missions and prayer emphasis during August. Wednesday night Family Meal resumes Wednesday. Bible study (Luke chapter 18) with Dr. Ron Winstead is at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. A new discussion group sponsored by First Baptist Church, Socrates' Cafe, is offered at Grace Cafe, 818 Broadway, Wednesdays at 7 p.m., for young adults interested in stretching their faith.

Vincentian Marian Youth to meet Monday night

Vincentian Marian Youth will meet Monday for a night at the shrine and grotto, with music, bonfire, food and good times with friends. Participants can share mission trip and Steubenville stories. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. The event begins at 7 p.m.

Tribute Quartet to be in concert at First General Baptist

The Tribute Quartet of Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert at the First General Baptist Church of Jackson at 6 p.m. Aug. 10. The church is at 1506 S. Farmington Road in Jackson.

Radio host to be guest speaker at Gordonville church

The Rev. Todd Wilkin, host of Issues Etc., on AM 1320 in St. Louis will be the guest speaker at the mission festival to be held Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, 176 County Road 226 in Gordonville. The service begins at 10:15 a.m.
