Missouri District LWML convention was held
More than 800 members of the Missouri District Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) met June 6 through 8 at the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Mo., for their 20th biennial convention. The theme was "Precious Journey." The Rev. Dr. Ray Mirly, president of the Missouri District LCMS, delivered the message. During convention business, delegates approved a mission goal of $331,000 for the 2008-2010 biennium, selected mission grants and elected officers. Officers elected were vice president of Christian Life, Christie Steffens of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, Mo.; and pastoral counselor, the Rev. Alan Wollenburg of Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston, Mo. The LWML is the official women's organization of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS). The Missouri district LWML is made up of 21 zones with 291 societies and a membership of 5,937.

Singer and songwriter David Patillo will be in concert at 6:30 p.m. today at Bethany Baptist Church, 1712 Randol Ave. in Cape Girardeau. Patillo has written more than 400 songs, and his releases have charted 30 times.
