The Rock International Ministries opens church
The Rock International Ministries (TRIM) has opened at 127 West Main St. in downtown Jackson. Senior pastor is the Rev. Thomas D. White, a 1997 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and a published author. His book, "Let Me Break It Down!", was published in March and is available in local bookstores. White says the new non-denominational ministry is "a church with a multicultural anointing for all of God's people." He said it features a "free non-bounding style of worship." White, a former police officer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department and a former Scott County juvenile officer, was formerly associated with Rhema Word Breakthrough International Ministries and Dr. A.G. Green. He is married to co-pastor Zsavonda L. White and is the father of four. Services are at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sundays and at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. St. James AME Church celebrates 144 years
St. James AME Church, 516 North St. in Cape Girardeau, will celebrate its 144th anniversary at 11 a.m. Sept. 2, led by exhorter sister Louise Duncan. The speaker for the event will be the Rev. Ervin William, of the Restoration Ervin Ministries, who grew up in the church and was an altar boy. The theme of the program will be "...Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Dinner will follow the service.
Abbey Road church honors music director
An "All Music Sunday" will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Abbey Road Christian Church, 2411 Abbey Road, as a tribute to director Roanne Dean, who is moving to Columbia, Mo., with her husband and daughter. A reception will follow at the church. Also, the youth group is planning to have its annual garage sale at the church Sept. 15.
Grace UMC adds children's director
Daniel Lies is the new director of children's ministries at Grace United Methodist Church. His part-time responsibilities include ministry with children from newborn through sixth grade and their families. His experience includes a full-time position as children's ministry director at Living Word Christian center in Minneapolis and children's ministry director at Grace Fellowship in Tulsa. Since moving to Cape Girardeau in 2006, he has been associate pastor at Christian Faith Fellowship overseeing the day-to-day operations of the office and church ministry.
Gloryroad Travelers to sing at Shiloh Baptist
The Gloryroad Travelers of Mounds, Ill., and a group yet to be named will be in concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, Ill.
Evangelists to speak at several locations
Drs. Chuck and Mary Ann Flynn will speak at the Gideon, Mo., Assembly of God Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (times vary). They will also be at the Scott City Father's Arms Fellowship at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and the Cape Girardeau Bethel Assembly of God on Friday and Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 (times vary). The Flynns, founders of Prophetic Trumpet, have spoken, taught and prophesied around the world. Recently they were honored by the Foursquare Church for more than 50 years of ministry. The couple not only speak at the largest churches in the world, they continue to speak at meetings in homes of believers. St. John's Lutheran to hold outdoor worship
An outdoor worship service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday on the church lawn at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. Dress casually and bring your lawn chairs. A basket lunch will be served following the service.
First Baptist Church plans activities
Sunday will be the last in the Rev. Mike Shupert's "Take the Next Step" series titled "Take the Next Step," with a focus on committing plans to the Lord for success, as in Proverbs 16:3. A new series begins Sept. 2. "RE:" of which "Re-calibrate" [your life] Matt. 11, will be the first. Youth Bible Study will be at 6:15 p.m. with Tyler Tankersley, and College Bible will be Sept. 8 with Tankersley. The church office will be closed for Labor Day.
It's a big world at First Pentecostal Church
"Kids Praise" will be at 6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Pentecostal Church of Cape, 3054 Lexington Ave. The production is "Big, Big World." The program will be performed by the "Super Church Kids" and glow-in the-dark puppets by "Teen Praise." The performance will include drama, drum corps, clowns, stilt walkers, songs in sign under black light and worship. The sanctuary will be decorated similar to "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" with flowers, bugs and butterflies. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Fruitland Community Church holds fun day
Fruitland Community Church will hold a community-wide Family Fun Day from 4 to 7 p.m. today. There will be children's and adult's bow shooting, games, face painting, space jump and food. Crusade for children to be held at Grace UMC
The Boys & Girls Club's Community Crusade for Children will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at Grace United Methodist Church, 521 Caruthers Ave. in Cape Girardeau. Guest speakers will be Dr. Ron Webb of Mount Calvary Powerhouse and Apostle JoAnn McCauley of the House of Prayer.
