Big River Telephone Co. has been awarded the Patriot Award from the Missouri National Guard and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The Patriot Award is awarded to employers who show exceptional support for their National Guard employees. James Eakin, a member of Big River Telephone's Network Operations Center, is an E4 specialist with the Missouri National Guard. Eakin has been called on numerous times over the past year to assist in the many natural disasters that have affected the region.
Bryan Frayser of Cape Girardeau, Fort Riley's assistant chief of training, was named the IMCOM-W Fire Service Instructor of the Year and Army Fire Service Instructor of the Year for 2010. Each year, fire departments across the nation submit award packages signifying their accomplishments for the previous year. Frayser has implemented a career-progression-model leader development blending fire service training with the Civilian Education System. He has also revitalized the career development program with 181 percent increase in department certifications and enrollments. Frayser represented Fort Riley Fire and Emergency Services at the annual International Associations of Fire Chiefs-Department of Defense Conference in Atlanta in August and competed for the Department of Defense Fire Instructor of the Year award.
