No doubt about it, baby animals are cute.

Even this baby fox squirrel has the look of innocence and blamelessness.

Baby animals in the woods are very vulnerable to attack by predators. They must learn fast how to escape harm.

Going unnoticed is important to the safety of most young animals in nature.

But this young squirrel has unwittingly put itself in a dangerous place.

The strong evening sunlight has lit up his tail, and every time he moved it was like a flashing welcome signal to any nearby hawk, owl, fox or cat.

I watched for the attack to come, but it didn't.

With luck and day-to-day life lessons learned, this pretty little squirrel will grow and become wise.

He will become an adult by October.
