Southeast HealthPoint Fitness and Rehab earned the 2011 Business of the Year Award from the Jackson Chamber of Commerce at its annual dinner Jan. 13. Southeast assumed ownership and operation of Main Street Fitness in 1995. The Jackson facility added physical therapy and rehabilitation services in 2002.
Staff sergeant named NCO of the quarter
Air Force Staff Sgt. Brandy L. Martin has been named Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter. Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments and community service and support. Martin is a military pay entitlement auditor assigned to the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D. She has served in the military for seven years. She is the daughter of Ricky Martin of Lewisville, Texas, and Nancy Henson of Cape Girardeau. Martin graduated in 2003 from Jackson High School and received a bachelor of arts in 2011 from National American University, Rapid City, S.D.
Chris Barnhart received his master of science in education, educational leadership, from Arkansas State University on Dec. 17. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Because he passed both the principal and superintendent exams, he can now apply for an administrator's certificate. Barnhart is a 1986 graduate of Central High School and is the son of Phillip and Yvetta Barnhart of Cape Girardeau.
Army National Guard Pvt. Clinton B. Sargent has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. The course of instruction included basic military training and advanced individual training. Sargent is the son of Marilyn Sargent and brother of Tempest Southall, both of Cape Girardeau. He is a 2010 graduate of Central High School.
Ruth Dockins, Jackie Dover and Jean Gooden, all of Cape Girardeau, received the President's Volunteer Service Award for outstanding work with Missouri CLAIM, a statewide program offering free Medicare counseling. All three won the bronze award for devoting more than 100 hours of their time to volunteer counseling in 2011. Dockins and Dover work with the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging. Gooden is based at the APPLE Project.
