Calling him a "hometown hero," Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder presented the Lieutenant Governor's Veterans Service Award to Southeast Hospital volunteer Richard Cornwell, a U.S. Marine Corps and the Navy veteran, of Cape Girardeau at a ceremony July 16. SoutheastHEALTH president and CEO Wayne Smith kicked off the ceremony in the hospital board room, which was attended by members of Cornwell's family, and numerous volunteers and hospital employees. Cornwell received an official declaration from the lieutenant governor's office recognizing his service to others. Cornwell has logged more than 4,000 hours of service to Southeast since he began volunteering at the hospital four years ago.
Morgan Lynn Meyr Lake, member of the John Guild Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was installed July 1 as state vice regent during Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. The John Guild Chapter was organized March 16, 1914. Morgan is the first from the chapter to become a state vice regent.
