Southeast Band teams with winds and brass

The Southeast Missouri State University Band, accompanied by the Wind Symphony and Southeast Brass Quintet, will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Academic Hall Auditorium on the university campus. The program will feature several tunes, included an original composition by Southeast faculty member Robert Fruehwald. For more information, call 651-2265.

Missouri Arts Council stops in Cape Girardeau

Representatives of the Missouri Arts Council will visit the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri at 5 p.m. April 27 as part of the MAC listening tour. At the meeting MAC representatives will take public input on the agency's strategic plan, MAC's goals for arts funding and programming in the coming years. Hmong writer and editor to speak at Southeast

Mai Neng Moua, a writer, editor and member of the Hmong Chinese ethnic group, will present a lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the University Center Party Room on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University as part of the university's Multicultural Speakers Series. Irish Festival scheduled for next weekend

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The annual Southern Illinois Irish Festival will take place April 27 to 29 in Carbondale. Entertainment includes the band Craobh Rua from Northern Ireland at 8 p.m. April 27, a Celtic Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29. Southern Illinois Bird Fest starts April 27

CACHE RIVER WETLANDS CENTER, Ill. -- The sixth annual Birding Fest of Southernmost Illinois will take place April 27 to 29 at the Cache River Wetlands Center. The festival features a series of programs, guided hikes and tours, art exhibits and other events celebrating the wildlife of Southern Illinois. Jackson schools to hold two arts events

Jackson's South Elementary School will hold a reception from 2 to 6 p.m. today to unveil murals created by local artist Craig Thomas and Jackson elementary students. On April 28 and 29, the district will present its Art Expressions 2007 event, showcasing art from throughout the district created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Guest artists will be on hand, and the event will feature hands-on centers to create sculpture, weaving and jewelry. The event will be held in the Junior High gymnasium on West Lane. New theater company holds open auditions

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- ColeBeanBay Theatre Company, a new professional Equity summer stock theater in Ste. Genevieve, is holding open auditions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All experience levels are welcome. Auditioners must prepare 32 bars of an up-tempo musical theater piece and provide a headshot and resume.
