Annual Beckwith lecture features treasure hunter

The featured speaker for this year's Southeast Missouri Regional Museum Thomas Beckwith Memorial Lecture will be treasure hunter Greg Hawley. Hawley is one of a crew of treasure hunters who found the steamboat Arabia in a Kansas cornfield in 1987. The lecture will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the museum and is free and open to the public. Yieser Museum to display traveling exhibit

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Yieser Art Center in Paducah will present a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History starting with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The "In Focus: National Geographic's Greatest Portraits" exhibit contains famous images from National Geographic. Local high schools to present spring theater

Cape Girardeau Central High School and Jackson High School will present their spring theater productions in the coming week. Jackson will present the readers theater piece "The Hiroshima Project" and the one-act play "The Bald Soprano" at 7 p.m. March 16 and 17. Sundays at Three features Southeast musicians

The Sundays at Three chamber music series will showcase Southeast Missouri State University students and faculty in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Old St. Vincent's Church. The program will include performances by the Cantus Choralis chamber choir, Southeast Brass Quintet, a string trio by Dvorak, works for solo percussion and flute and a composition by Robert Fruewald.

Southeast to hold informal dance concert

The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance will present its annual informal dance concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Parker Dance Studio on the university campus. The annual concert features dance and choreography performed and created by Southeast students. For more information, call 651-2265 or 651-2149.

Former Jackson resident receives music honor

Jackson native Randy Smith received the Phi Mu Alpha Orpheus Award at a ceremony last month at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. The award is presented by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the professional music fraternity, to a person who has contributed significantly to the cause of music in America. Smith is a 1977 graduate of Jackson High School and a 1982 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.

Shawnee College holds school art competition

ULLIN, Ill. -- The Shawnee Community College Art Department will present its High School Art Competition and Exhibit starting with a reception at 7 p.m. March 24. The exhibit will be on display through March 30. For more information, call (618) 634-3257.

Mineral Area College Jazz Fest concert Saturday
