Broadway Beans and Roasting hosts Beananza!
Broadway Beans and Roasting Co., 605 Broadway, will hold a music, art and poetry event called Beananza! from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Drawings for free beans, drinks and more will be part of the event with free admission.
Arts council hosts national show in July
Artistic styles ranging from traditional to avant garde will be exhibited at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri during July in the annual Girardot National Juried Art Show. New Orleans native artist Robert Ketchens will serve as the show's juror. Artists from New York, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Missouri will have work exhibited.
Modest Living Artists to exhibit at Brewing Co.
The Modest Living Artists will exhibit their work from 6 to 10 p.m. July 6 in Buckner Brewing Co.'s Riverview Room. Artists exhibiting include James Thurman, Jake Wells, Rochelle Steffen, Hannah Hart, Utahna Hancock and guest artists Thomas Shaner and Eric Scrivner. Modest Living Artists member Jim Daniels will also exhibit his work at Gallery 1.2.5 the same night.
'World's Largest Brain' will appear at fair
"The World's Largest Brain," a giant brain-shaped hot air balloon created by Cape Girardeau neurosurgeon Dr. Scott Gibbs, will make an appearance at this year's SEMO District Fair. The balloon is more than 10 stories tall, weighs more than 1,100 pounds, and was created to increase awareness about the brain and its functions. The balloon will appear Sept. 8 only.
Mingo seeking photo contest entries
PUXICO, Mo. -- Mingo National Wildlife Refuge is sponsoring its second annual Mingo Swamp Flora and Fauna photography contest. The contest is open to all ages and seeks to promote public awareness of the natural resources of Mingo. Categories include professional and amateur, wildlife, plants, landscapes and people in nature, taken at the refuge or of animals and plants known to reside in the refuge. Contra dancers spit watermelon seeds
The Cape Girardeau Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will host its regular contra dance, along with a watermelon seed spitting contest, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. July 14 at the Christ Episcopal Church. The Red House Interpretive Center has announced its upcoming concert by folk musician Mark Dvorak will take place July 14, not July 7, a date released earlier by the Red House. Dvorak will perform at 3 p.m.
Gemeinhardt to have solo exhibit in Sikeston
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Anniston, Mo., artist and photographer Teresa Gemeinhardt will have a solo exhibition starting Sunday and continuing through the end of August at the Sikeston Depot Museum, 116 W. Malone Ave. in Sikeston. The exhibit will feature scenes from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and the Kentucky Lake tributary Blood River. Gemeinhardt's work will also be on display starting Aug. 4 at the Conservation Campus Nature Center in Cape County Park North and at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's Girardot National Juried Show.
