Pvt. Clinton Sargent of Cape Girardeau recently completed his military training to become a combat engineer for Missouri National Guard's 1138th Engineer Sapper Company in Farmington and Fredericktown. He will begin serving with his new unit in January. He graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Nov. 18, and received the Soldier's Creed Award and the High Physical Training Award for his dedication and excellence during training. Sargent served with Company E of the Recruit Sustainment program in Cape Girardeau.
Local specialist named a distinguished honor graduate
Spc. Trey Maevers of Cape Girardeau recently completed his military training to become a combat engineer for Missouri National Guard's 1138th Engineer Sapper Company in Farmington and Fredericktown. He will begin serving with his new unit in January. He was a distinguished honor graduate from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Nov. 18. He also received the Soldier's Creed Award, the High Physical Training Award and the Trailblazer Award for his dedication and excellence during training. Maevers served with Company E of the Recruit Sustainment program in Cape Girardeau.
Jackson graduate completes One Station Unit Training
Army National Guard Pfc. Shelby J. Hovis of Jackson has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Hovis received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history and traditions. During advanced individual training, he completed the combat engineer course to perform basic combat construction and rigging operations; operate light and heavy engineer wheeled and armor tracked vehicles while participating in combat mobility, countermobility and survivability operations; assist in assembly and maintenance of military standard float and fixed bridges; prepare, install, and prime firing systems for demolition and explosives; arm, disarm, and install anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, locate mines by visual means or with mine detector; and recognize and neutralize land mines, firing devices and booby traps.
Local receives U.S. Army Combat Action Badge
Sgt. Kyle D. Diveley of Cape Girardeau was among several soldiers of the Missouri National Guard to receive the U.S. Army Combat Action Badge for combat operations in Afghanistan on Dec. 26. The badge is presented to soldiers who have been personally present and under direct hostile enemy fire. Diveley serves with the 1138th Transportation Company, a medium truck unit based at Jefferson Barracks in south St. Louis County. For the past six months the 1138th has been performing convoy operations in Afghanistan, delivering crucial supplies to coalition forces throughout the country. The unit is slated to return home in July.
