They give birth. They give food. They nurture and teach. And they get a day. Mother's Day. One day above the rest that children of all ages show appreciation for all that mom does. At least one kindergarten class at Alma Schrader Elementary School made mom a flower, planted some zinneas and decorated fans. At least one kindergarten class at Alma Schrader Elementary School made mom a flower, planted some zinneas and decorated fans. They and a few third graders offered their thoughts on what makes a mom special, what they liked to do with their mom and what Mother's Day gift they would give her.

What makes a mom special?

She helps me figure out words in a book that I don't know. We read together a lot. Whenever I have a bad dream , she helps me go back to sleep. She reads me a book.

What did you get for your mom?

We made a card for her and we planted flowers for her.

We made cards and otherwise on Mother's Day we're going to go hiking or if me and my brother's are too sick with our allergies we're going to play Clue.

I think we'll just stay at home because they're always busy.

Well, she's lovely. She always puts on the stuff I tell her. She always dresses nice.

What do you like to do with your mom?

We go yardsaling together, and we go shopping — my favorite thing. I like to go shoe shopping.

If you could buy your mom anything, anything in world, what would you give her?

A new pair of shoes cause she wants some new shoes even though she just bought a pair of new shoes two weeks ago.

What makes a mom special?

She makes sure I do really good in school. She helps me every time I have to study for a test. And she helps me clean my room.

What do you have planned for mother's day?

I'm going to ask my sister if she can help me make her breakfast in bed. Maybe get her flowers or something.

We sometimes watch "I Love Lucy" episodes together on the weekend.

She likes wildflowers and I like her very much and she likes me very much, too.

On Mother's Day I gave my mom a flower and it was yellow.

A fan, a card and some flowers.

She loves flowers and she really loves me being good on mother's day.

What makes your mom special?

She's really nice and respectful. She's really nice. Like if I do something she doesn't get all mad at me. She just talks to me and she doesn't get upset or anything.

What do you and your mom do together?

We play Monopoly a lot, and we play outside with the dog.

What are you going to do for mom on Mother's Day?

Probably just do something special for her, like maybe my dad would bake her a cake or something and we'll make her cards and stuff.

If you could get your mom anything, what would you buy her?

Probably jewelry, like a necklace or earrings. She likes silver mostly and sometimes a greenish color.
