September was pretty hot. I took this photo on Sept. 21. The bird is a warbler named ovenbird. It is a migratory songbird that gets its name from its nest. The nest is built on the ground and looks like a primitive outdoor oven.
The ovenbird looks similar to a thrush, but the coloration and markings on the bird's head set it apart. It has a dash of orange on top of its head bordered on either side by a dark brown line.
It also has dark lines from the sides of its beak running down the white neck.
The ovenbird makes a loud fast-paced "preacher-preacher-preacher" call.
Maybe on a hot summer day the ovenbird is giving a short "fire and brimstone" sermon. Or maybe not.
