"These are a soft cookie that keeps well. This cookie was a favorite of my late father-law-in Ellis E. Shrum. He would watch me bake these. He would sample them as they came out of the oven, even though I had a plate of them in front of him to take home. Our church and American Legion unit loves them, too."
1 cup melted margarine
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup raisins
12 ounces chocolate chips
2 cups Quaker old-fashioned oats
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together the margarine, white and brown sugars, eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, oats, chocolate chips and raisins (nuts optional). Drop by teaspoons onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in oven for 12 minutes or until set and golden brown. Transfer to racks to cool.
