WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- It was the largest baby the South Shore Hospital's maternity ward had seen in its 80-year history.
Tuesday, a Marshfield woman gave birth to a boy weighing 14 pounds, 12 ounces. The boy, named Jacob, was 24 inches long.
The parents' names were not released, the Patriot Ledger of Quincy reported Thursday. Hospital spokesman Scott Pickard said Jacob was delivered by Caesarean section.
The average American baby weighs 7 pounds, 8 ounces at birth, according to the American Medical Association.
