Brown joins Southeast Missouri Hospital staff

Twila Brown has joined the educational services staff at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

In her new role, Brown will focus on the implementation of evidence-based practice and the promotion of research by Southeast nurses. She will work with Southeast nurses to confirm that patient care is based on scientific evidence through the integration of current research findings into patient care interventions. Brown will also serve as chairwoman of the hospital's newly-formed Nursing Research Council.

Before joining the staff at Southeast, Brown served as an assistant professor in the Department of Nursing at Avila University in Kansas City. She has also served on Department of Nursing faculties at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and Tulsa Junior College in Tulsa. Her staff nurse experience includes working in the neonatal intensive care units of St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

New coordinator named at wound care center

Jennifer Wallis is new unit coordinator for Southeast Missouri Hospital's Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center.

Wallis received her LPN degree from the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, where she was named Student Nurse of the Year. She received her RN degree from the Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing & Health Sciences and was recognized at graduation with the college's Student Nurse Management Award. She is certified by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology.

Wallis has been employed by Southeast for nine years and worked as a unit secretary and certified nurse assistant before receiving her nursing degrees. A graduate of Jackson High School, Wallis is a lifelong Cape Girardeau County resident.

WIB president attends forum in Washington

Ken Boyer, president and chief operating officer of the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri, recently attended the National Association of Workforce Boards Forum 2003 in Washington, D.C. Also in attendance was Perry County Presiding Commissioner Tom Sutterer.

The theme of the forum was "training, education, advocacy." WIB is made up of 47 private and public sector members from 13 counties.

Jackson man graduates from trucking school

Jerry Balsman of Jackson has graduated from Southern Missouri Truck Driving School. Balsman completed the four-week tractor trailer driving course, graduating with a 95 average.

Area cattlemen receive national recognition

Jerry Lorberg of Gordonville has been recognized nationally by the American Angus Association for having a registered Angus cow included in the association's 2003 Pathfinder Report.

Brian Meier of Jackson had two registered cows in the report. Gregory Meier of Jackson also had one registered cow in the report. Eggers Stock Farm had one cow in the report.

Only 1,971 of the more than 35,000 American Angus Association members are represented in this year's report, according to John Crouch, executive vice president of the association with headquarters in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Pathfinder Program identifies superior Angus cows based upon recorded performance traits that are economically important to efficient beef production.
