For Liz Glastetter, an exciting part of her job is getting to be involved in the most monumental time most families will share.

Glastetter, lead service line director for maternal/child services in the Saint Francis Healthcare System, began the position in December and says she couldn't be happier about it.

"I think this is the best place to work in health care," she says.

With a background as a labor and delivery nurse, and with three children of her own, Glastetter understands how exciting it can be to welcome a new life into the world.

She began working for the health care system as an administrative partner in 2002, eventually working her way up to her current position, which involves leading the Saint Francis Family BirthPlace, the Children's Center, the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Cape Maternal/Fetal Medicine and Cape Care for Women.

Since she rose to the position in the winter, one of the neatest things she's been able to see has been the introduction of a midwife program. A certified nurse midwife is able to help low-risk mothers through pregnancy and delivery.

"I was glad to be over here to be able to see that," she says.

Outside of work, Glastetter says she enjoys spending time with her husband and sons, ages 1, 4 and 5, and traveling when she can.

"My kids and my family motivate me," she says.

In the next year, Glastetter says she would like to see her department continue to grow in the region.
