POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Family Counseling Center has been awarded a $1 million-dollar grant through HUD to build a living center in Poplar Bluff for patients in need of safe and affordable housing.

The organization serves approximately 1,000 clients in Buther County who suffer from serious mental illnesses. The Living Center will consist of nine one-bedroom units available to very low income, chronically mentally ill residents. There will be another one-bedroom unit for the resident manager. The buildings will be single story and wood framed, with each unit consisting of a kitchen or dining area, living room, bedroom and bath. Construction is estimated to begin in the fall.
