LETTERS: HARD TO BELIEVE WE WOULD VOTE FOR A DEAD MAN

To the editor:

Maybe I am naive, but I find it a little hard to believe that anyone, including Missourians, would vote for a dead man. That may sound insensitive, but it is a fact. Mel Carnahan is dead. John Ashcroft is running unopposed for this next term of office.

I believe Jean Carnahan may be very capable of being a U.S. senator from Missouri, but I also believe that if I were in her shoes, I would appreciate a little more time to come to grips with the recent deaths of my husband and child. Is it possible the Democratic Party is pushing her into this for its own gain and not for the good of Jean Carnahan?

All eyes will be on Missouri Nov. 7. Let's show everyone that we are not insensitive and uncaring as we appear to be now. Give Mrs. Carnahan time to mourn her husband and child, and then see what the future brings for Missouri.
