LETTERS: HIZZONOR: GOLF COURSE, BRIDGE GO TOGETHER

To the editor:

I read with interest your piece (Friday's River City Reflections column by editor Joe Sullivan) concerning the possibility of utilizing the bridge as a tourist attraction.

I'm sorry you think I'm infringing on your downtown golf course, but, really, my idea is to complement your golf course. Really, any golf course needs a practice range, and I thought it would be a grand idea if we would install a swinging door at the end of the bridge and artificial grass and put in a practice range for your golf course. That way, you could warm up before you play the downtown facility.

As an added tourist attraction, we can have international long-driving contests and try to attract people who would like to hit a golf ball across the Mississippi River. My latest idea may require an environmental-impact statement, but can't you imagine the headlines in Tokyo: "Jumbo Ozaki Drives Across the Mississippi."

I'm sure I'll have more ideas for you in the future.
