Apparently an 0-4 start to the season did not sit well with the Southeast Missouri State University volleyball team.
Southeast won its first match of the season Friday night and quickly won its second and third matches Saturday, the latter against the University of Missouri to win the Tiger Invitational.
Southeast finished the round-robin tournament with a perfect 3-0 mark as it swept Missouri 15-2, 16-14, 15-7.
Kristine Haukap had a monster day with a total of 40 kills to become the eighth player in Southeast history to join the `1,000 kill club.' Haukap led the Otahkians with 15 kills against Missouri.
Haukap was named to the all tournament team along with teammates Amy Henken and Angie Aschoff. Henken had a team-high 14 digs against Missouri.
"I'm very pleased we played as well as we did," said Southeast coach Cindy Gannon. "We needed to win this tournament to rebound from our losses earlier in the year. I think playing against the tough teams last weekend at Colorado State helped us tremendously tonight."
Earlier in the day, Southeast (3-4) defeated New Mexico State in four sets, 15-8, 15-2, 10-15, 15-10.
Against New Mexico State (1-5), Haukap blasted 25 kills while making 13 digs. Jackie Dewort added 13 kills. Lea Beckemeyer had 11 kills and tied Henken with a team-high 14 digs.
