A more normal Tuesday in the Southeast Missourian newspaper coverage area saw some fun headlines, with Cape Central baseball and Advance softball both making waves.
The Advance softball team (5-0) is undefeated on the year, and tasked against Scott City (3-3), one of the top teams in the area, those Hornets didn't falter.
Addison Carlton took matters into her own hands, allowing just four hits in the circle while hitting a double and a triple to lead the Hornet offense.
Cape Central baseball (2-7) finally ended its losing streak with a big win over district rival North County on the road on Tuesday afternoon.
Led by a four-run third, the Tigers nearly let the Raiders back into the matchup late, but Evan Hall slammed the door shut with a huge save to end a seven-game slump.
Scott City baseball (6-1) kept its hot streak going with a dominant win over Advance going away, holding the Hornets to one run and pouring it on offensively.
The Rams didn't get into mercy-rule territory until it was too late, but that didn't matter to Blake Wilburn as he cut up Advance on the mound.
Wilburn's final stat line included just three hits and a ridiculous 14 strikeouts, striking the opposing batters down seemingly at will.
Perryville baseball (1-2) notched its first win of the year as it took down cross-town rival St. Vincent (2-3) on the Indians' home field.
It certainly wasn't pretty defensively for either side, but Barrett Wheeler's three singles for the Pirates led them to a huge win over their bitter rival.
Oran softball (2-1) responded to a rough loss to undefeated Twin Rivers on Friday with a dominant win against Leopold on Tuesday afternoon.
Molly Spane did some heavy lifting for her Eagles, giving up just one hit in the circle while notching three hits, including a double, on the offensive end.
Saxony baseball (3-2) won yet another shootout, this time against East Prairie to get above .500 on the season for the first time this year.
For the third consecutive game, Owen Tarry got the win on the mound for the Crusaders. He's earned the win each time Saxony's emerged victorious this year.
Offensively, Jason Sparks Jr. led Saxony with a 3-for-5 performance at the dish that included three doubles to spark (get it?) the Crusader offense.
Meadow Heights baseball (3-2) walked it off in extras against Bismarck to finish off a strong defensive day at home.
Braeden Hays and Ransom Grindstaff took turns doing damage on both sides of the ball, with Grindstaff earning the win in the final inning after Hays held up the visitors for a full seven.
Oran baseball (3-2) got right with a dominant victory against Leopold on Tuesday afternoon, holding the Wildcats hitless at home.
Carson Kern and Nolan Loper combined for a five-inning shutout no-hitter while the offense racked up eight hits and five walks to cruise past the 'Cats.
It's a return to form for the highly-ranked Eagles, climbing back above .500 for the second time this year.
Chaffee baseball (6-1) fell for the first time this season, losing to Greenville on its home field after the Bears put five across in the first two innings.
