Leopold junior Dustin Thiele made his season debut Monday and quickly made up for lost time.

Thiele hit a pair of grand slams in a 15-run third inning in Leopold's 31-4, five-inning victory over Richland in the Wildcats' home opener. The at-bats were the first of the season for Thiele, who entered the game in center field as a substitution.

Thiele had started the past two seasons, but had decided not to play this season. He recently had a change of heart, and rejoined the team Monday after participating in the mandatory 14 practices.

His first home run went over the fence in right-center field, while the second cleared the fence in left field.

Cody Van de Ven, John Bohnsack, Wade Wiseman, Clayton Stoverink and winning pitcher Ryan Davis each added a double for Leopold (4-4).

Thiele finished 2-for-2 with eight RBIs, while Stoverink had three hits and four RBIs, Wiseman had two hits and three RBIs, and Davis had two hits and two RBIs.

The Bulldogs' Dylan Drury tossed a complete game, striking out 14 and giving up just one earned run.

Notre Dame scored six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.

The Bulldogs improved to 6-4 and will host Scott City today.

Leopold junior Whitney Vandeven had strong performances on the mound and at the plate, helping the Wildcats to their second victory over Delta in three days.

Vandeven pitched a complete game, striking out one and surrendering four hits and two runs, to improve her overall pitching record to 3-0. She also went 2-for-3.

Freshman Kylie Stoverink went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, sparking the Wildcats' four-run sixth inning.

Kendra Burnett struck out 11 batters for the Bobcats, which left nine runners on base.

Leopold improved to 6-1, while the Bobcats dropped to 3-2.

He Is Risen Spectacular

Saxony Lutheran took home third place in the He Is Risen Spectacular tournament played at Metro East Lutheran in Springfield, Ill.

The Crusaders knocked off Springfield, Ill., 5-0 in the first game of the tournament. Nicole McLard threw a complete game, striking out nine batters.

Kara Versemann added a double and two RBIs, while Angel Stone went 3-for-3 and drove home three runners.

In the semifinal game, Saxony was downed by Walther 4-2. Taylor Krauss went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Versemann added a double.

Saxony shut out Brussels in the third-place game 6-0. McLard picked up the win, while going 2-for-2 at the plate.

Versemann went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Valleroy, Krauss, and Holly Schermann all had multiple hits for the Crusaders (4-1).

The Bulldogs were led by John Oliver's 42.

Libby Brauss, Siebert, Courtney Luehmann and Kaitlin Wibbenmeyer all added an assist for the Bulldogs (7-0).

Perryville 8, North County 0

The Pirates earned the shutout to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Alicia Kueker netted two goals and tallied two assists for Perryville.

Becca Hanquist added two goals. Alyssa Bauwens, Kendra Schilli, Ava Johnson and Ashley Castleberry all added a goal.

Schilli and Nicole Gremaud finished with two assists, while Johnson and Kelsey Schremp added an assist.

Emily Westmoreland recorded the shutout.
