JACKSON - It was easy to tell Jackson High wrestling coach Bruce Thomas was pleased with his team's effort following the Indians' 37-19 dual win over DeSoto.
Even the Jackson wrestlers who lost were gaining praise.
Jackson won six of the first seven matches and went on to an easy dual triumph over the Dragons Tuesday night in Jackson.
"I thought we wrestled well as a team," said Thomas, whose team raised its dual record to 5-2. "Even the people who lost had good matches. Most of them just made one mistake that cost them their matches.
"It was good to do as well as we did against DeSoto. We handled them better than the other tough teams around here did," Thomas said.
The Indians were victorious in the first four weight divisions.
Jeff Edmunds won by a 7-2 decision at 103 before Randy Koehler picked up a forfeit at 112.
Josh Gast followed with the first of three Indian falls with a third period pin before Chris Hinze easily won at 125 to put Jackson up 19-0.
Andy Hancock gave up a five-point move late in the third period to fall at 130. But a 9-4 victory by Andy Harrison at 135 and a first-period pin by Todd Reiminger at 140 gave Jackson a comfortable 28-3 lead.
"Todd wrestled a great match," Thomas said. "He looked really good."
The Indians lost four of the last six matches, but it was too late for DeSoto.
Clint Thomas' comeback win at 152 and Len Waldron's pin at 171 were the Indians' final two wins in the dual.
DeSoto picked up wins at 145, 160, 189 and heavyweight to make the dual deceivingly close.
Thomas was impressed with sophomore Sean Reagan in his 2-1 loss. Regan gave David Lees, a district champion a year ago, all he could handle before losing. "I was impressed with Sean's performance," Thomas said. "Lees is a good wrestler and Sean gave him a good match."
Jackson also won 63-6 in the jayvee match.
Amos Evans, Brian Bowles, Tony Giambalvo, Jeff Criddle, Ryan Corrigan, Shawn Taylor, Dallen Barnes, Jerry Tilley, Mike Fairbanks, Chad Huckabee, Neil Glass all were winners.
